Ingredients

For the Chai Tea

  • 1 Spiced Delights Chai Spice Pack
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 1 ½ cups milk

For the Scones

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tbsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup chai tea (cooled)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (optional for glaze)

Instructions

  • Prepare Chai Tea: In a saucepan, combine water and add the entire contents of the Spiced Delights - Chai Spice Pack. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it steep for 15-20 minutes. Add milk and steep for an additional 5 minutes. Strain and set aside to cool.
  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Make Chai Scones: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Incorporate Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup of the prepared chai tea (cooled), heavy cream, and vanilla extract.
  • Form Dough: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly crumbly.
  • Shape and Cut Scones: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick. Use a round cutter to cut out scones.
  • Bake: Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  • Cool: Allow the chai scones to cool on a wire rack.
  • Glaze: If desired, you can make a simple glaze by mixing 1 cup powdered sugar with 2-3 tablespoons of the remaining chai tea together.
